At Stoke Prior First School our English curriculum is developed around a sequence of high quality age-appropriate texts, using Literacy Count’s Ready Steady Write units of learning.  We use each book to create a variety of opportunities: developing spelling, punctuation and grammar knowledge; exploring structures and features of a range of genres for different audiences and purposes; planning,  writing and editing a full written piece.  

To enable pupils to be successful in their writing, we use a number of different strategies including shared and modelled writing, group discussion and partner talk, immersion in the text and drama.  Each lesson in every year group includes Sentence Accuracy work which further supports accurate use of grammar and punctuation.

Each half term, each class has one book (vehicle text) which is used to inspire writing across two different writing outcomes - a fiction and a non-fiction.
